SEO or Search Engine Optimization refers to methods of increasing the visibility of websites on search engines, such as Google and Yahoo.
In today’s world, utilizing SEO to increase the viewership of your website is paramount. SEO tactics aren’t just used for business websites but can be strategic in increasing your social media following. Instagram and Twitter may not seem like ordinary search engines, but they have a search feature nonetheless, where you can find all sorts of information. Here are four ways you can start utilizing SEO techniques to increase your social media following:
- Add links to your website or social media post: When writing personal blogs or info on your personal website, adding links from other sites can help boost up your website in search rankings.
- Add hashtags: What is Twitter without hashtags? Hashtags can provide so much value, that even Instagram now lets users follow hashtags so they can keep up to date with whatever topic they searched. If you want any social media post to get noticed, then adding hashtags is one of the easiest ways to do just that!
- Add a location: As I started to discover the power of hashtags on Instagram, I noticed that adding a location to one of my posts generated more likes than the others. Of course, there are many different factors that played into gaining more likes. Nevertheless, I now add a location to my posts to increase the visibility of them. Adding locations also applies to Twitter and Facebook posts.
- Remember, relevance is key. Links, hashtags, and locations may be important, but they don’t add value if they aren’t relevant to your post. In personal blogs, add links that add value to your discussion. For Instagram and Twitter, make sure your hashtags are applicable to what you are posting about. And if you want to add a location to your posts, make sure the location is where you took the picture or where you are tweeting from.
Those are just a few tips on how you can use SEO to increase the visibility of your social media posts and personal website not only on traditional search engines but on social media platforms. Knowing what SEO can do for your personal brand, just imagine what it can do for your business ventures!
